“I enjoy midnight, walks through the forest, rainfall, swimming, and the presence of my closest friends. The sight of crisp autumn leaves drifting down from the treetops as leaf-bare approaches is absolutely breathtaking. And in my opinion, you haven’t lived until you’ve tasted a fish and felt the relaxing lap of cool water at your sides. There’s nothing like it. I’m not so sure why other cats hate and fear the water.”
Dislikes
“I dislike cats who are excessively harsh and bully others around. There’s a special place on my hate-list for cruel cats. Aside from that, I dislike birds and snakes. I don’t hate loners and kittypets, but if they mess with my clanmates in any way, I will watch them closely. Very, very closely. I’m not sure how I feel about the other clans quite yet, but it’s safe to assume that I would treat them the same way I treat loners.”

Prologue: Creation
Meadowsong and Nightwhisper grew up together. They were best friends since kithood, and grew to have feelings for each other shortly after they became warriors. The pair finally acknowledged their love and became mates under the brilliant light of the full moon on a clear autumn night. They quickly became infatuated with each other. Meadowsong and Nightwhisper were inseparable. It wasn't long before the two began discussing the possibility of pregnancy. They had more than enough love to share with their future kits, but they both quickly realized that bringing another life into this world may be risky. Nightwhisper's siblings had all died shortly after birth due, while Meadowsong's brother, Wiltedkit, was stillborn. The risk of complications was high, the couple decided to try anyway.

One chilly winter night, Meadowsong had her dream. She found herself in a steamy jungle with ferns, grasses, and bushes that were many fox-lengths taller than her obscuring her vision. The trees seemed to touch the faded grey sky. She was uncertain of what to do with in this mysterious place, but soon found that she wasn’t meant to think about what to do. She had to feel. Follow her instincts. The pregnant she-cat rose to her paws and began to maneuver through the dense forest. Picking a path through the dense undergrowth was difficult at first, but her paws quickly became accustomed to it. Meadowsong was soon sprinting across the landscape, heart welling with courage and happiness. It almost felt as if the soon-to-be mother herself was a kit again. When she finally grew tired, the damsel stopped to rest beneath the shade of a tree. It was there where she first spotted a pair of emerald green eyes staring at her from the depths of the mist. They seemed to glow and shimmer with thought. Slowly, the cloud of fog lifted, revealing the most enormous feline Meadowsong had ever seen. It was a golden leopard with dark spots – only they weren't exactly spots. The markings seemed more like blotches or rings that had somehow melted together. The large feline was crouched atop a fallen tree, as if preparing to spring forward and pounce on an unsuspecting enemy. She stared at it in awe, locking eyes with the giant cat. Her whiskers trembled with excitement and fear. A quiet purr would escape the golden she-cat's throat as she grinned and whispered, "Leopardkit."
Chapter 1: Sunrise
Birth
Meadowsong gave birth the next morning. It was longer and more difficult than she had expected it to be, and only yielded one kit, but as soon as her eyes found the tiny bundle of fluff, she was ecstatic. According to the medicine cat, the kit was strong and healthy. Meadowsong and Nightstep beamed at their newborn daughter, who appeared to have inherited her mother's coloration and her father's plush coat. The kitten would be named after the powerful creature that appeared in her dream last night. She would have all the beauty, strength, and courage of a leopard.
She was their daughter.
Their hopes and dreams come true.

Chapter _: Something You Want To Forget About
8-9 moons
Leopardpaw was resting near the camp's entrance when she spotted a large tan shape moving among the boulders in the corners of her eyes. She instantly turned her attention to it and realized that this was no mere shape. It was an enormous beast of a cat, more than four times the size of the largest warrior she had ever seen. The creature swam into camp and picked up Shadekit, who hissed and thrashed about as he was being carried off. She and Kestrelpaw witnessed this. The two apprentices were quick to react. They formed a small patrol with Nighthowl, Sparrowpaw, and Flowerdrift, then chased after it. Upon finding the monster's den, the cats spotted a miniature monster rolling about in the grass. It had to be the larger one's kit. The question of what to do with it quickly arose. If it were allowed to live, it could grow up and terrorize the clans. If it were killed, its mother would likely seek revenge. The golden bengal defended the kit, arguing that it was against the Warrior Code to harm it. She even stood beside it, placing herself between it and her clanmates as, one by one, they decided that the kit would have to die. Her fight was lost. The she-cat would reluctantly step back and allow them to take the innocent kit's life. She couldn't bear to watch, so she walked back to the den and prepared to snatch up Shadekit once the beast left the den. She could see the monster and Shadekit. Shadekit's fur was wet and slick, as if he was recently groomed. Her kidnapped clanmate was unharmed, but HollowClan warriors were about to slaughter the mother-beast's young. It made her feel sick.
Then the screaming began. The monster kit wailed and wailed as Flowerdrift and Kestrelpaw dug claws and teeth into its body. It twitched and squirmed as Kestrelpaw slit its throat. The apprentice put a paw over its mouth in an attempt to silence the dying kit, but it was too late. The mother charged out of her makeshift den to find her baby dying, a cat with bloodied claws pressing a paw over its mouth. This sent her into a rage. Leopardpaw emerged from the den with Shadekit beside her and stumbled upon a horrendous sight. The beast had Kestrelpaw in its jaws. Kestrelpaw struggled for freedom, paws swiping the air desperately. It was no use. The monster carried her closer, like a kit showing off its first catch to its mother. Like this was all just a sick game of revenge. Kestrelpaw locked eyes with Leopardpaw, and the young bengal's heart sank. She cried out as Kestralpaw was slowly crushed in the monster's jaws, hearing every crunch and snap in sickening detail. Time seemed to stop. Once the enormous feline was sure the mangled lump of fur in her mouth would die, it dropped her and ran off towards LichenClan territory. Leopardpaw dashed towards the fallen apprentice and attempted to comfort her in her final moments.
The apprentice had never felt so much anxiety, guilt, and misery. Since then, her dreams have been haunted by the screams. Her clanmate's last ragged breath and the beast-kit's terrified eyes, forever gazing off into the great beyond. Sometimes, she wakes up crying. In order to prevent the other apprentices from questioning this, she has moved out of the apprentice den. She now sleeps near the entrance of the camp, where she had first seen the beast. She insists that it's because she wants to guard the camp, and so far, nobody has made her move.

I remember how you used to bring back fresh fish for me when I was a kit. You told me incredible stories of fantastic places and things I could only dream of seeing. But then you just disappeared. What happened to you?
⌘⌘⊘⊚☾Darkfeather: (Past Mentor) -
You were a very harsh mentor. Your ways could be considered brutal. I never grew close to you, but I still feel bad about your passing sometimes. I’ll always remember our days together. That first training session, our first patrol, my first hunt…
⌘⍟Otterleap: (Mentor) ++
You seem really good-natured and kind. I’m glad you’re my mentor, and I can’t wait to make new memories with you.

Are you sure you didn't see me when I fell into the pond? I, uh, I thought I saw you giggling.
⌽⊝Erminekit: (Acquaintance) -
What you did back there with the loner was foolish and reckless. One tiny swipe or quick bite could have ended your life. You would have never lived to become an apprentice or warrior. Nevertheless, I am sorry for yelling at you. I was just worried. Please don’t take it personally.
⌘⌽Russethawk: (Acquaintance) +
I should talk to you some time. I see you around pretty often, but I haven’t said anything yet.
⊝☾Kestrelpaw (Acquaintance) o
I should have done more to stop you and Flowerdrift from attacking that kit. If I had, none of this would have happened. You... You would still be alive. I'm so sorry. You were so young. A life taken from this world far too soon.
⌽Flowerdrift (Acquaintance) o
At first, I was angry. I hated that you were so eager to kill that monster kit. But then I realized how heartbroken you were when you saw Kestrelpaw. I couldn't be mad. I feel sorry for you. You're probably feeling just as guilty as I am.

⊝⊚ The BeastWe shouldn't have killed your kit. I knew it was wrong. I tried to stop them, but they wouldn't listen to me... I hope you don't take out your anger on the other clans. LichenClan did not kill your child. We did.
⊝☾The Beast-Kit
You were so innocent and young. You weren't afraid of us when we stood there, preparing to take your life. You didn't even cower as I sniffed you. It was wrong to let them kill you, and I'm sorry I didn't try harder to protect you.
